Overview

Christopher (“Chris”) L. Emerson is a registered patent attorney in the firm’s intellectual property practice group. Mr. Emerson practices in all areas of patent law with an emphasis on preparing and prosecuting patent applications; counseling clients on intellectual property matters; preparing validity, infringement, and freedom to operate opinions; and representing clients in patent matters before the USPTO.

Mr. Emerson has experience in a wide array of computer and software-oriented technologies as well as various electrical and mechanical arts, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks, cloud computing, cloud storage, VR simulation, drone systems, communications, computing hardware, controllers, digital circuits, semiconductors, lighting fixtures, and household appliances.

Mr. Emerson’s practice includes working with clients to implement best practices for patent portfolio management and to understand emerging issues in U.S. patent law. Mr. Emerson has experience working with Foreign Counsel and Foreign Filings to ensure procurement of international protections sought.

While in law school, Mr. Emerson worked for the USPTO as an Examination Intern, where he received training in statutory interpretation, prior art searching, and Office Action drafting. Mr. Emerson was also a member of the Arbitration Moot Court Team and the University of Louisville Law Review.

Prior to law school, Mr. Emerson worked in a variety of occupations, starting as a Cashier at McDonalds, where he would eventually be promoted to a Technical Support role for multiple stores in the Elizabethtown, Kentucky area, and concluding as a plant engineering supervisor at UPS. Mr. Emerson also obtained hands-on experience and training from Louisville Gas and Electric (LG&E) as an instrumentation and electronics technician apprentice and worked as an electrical engineer for hydro-pneumatic press manufacturer, Tox Pressotechnik, while at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant.
